American Jesus | Netflix pronounces on actor deaths in accident

Last June 16th, the upcoming Netflix adaptation of American Jesus, titled The Chosen One suffered a tragedy.

According to a report by Washington Post the actors, Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco Gonzalez Aguilar died in a car accident.

Now, the streaming platform has published a brief statement (sent to Deadline) regretting what happened:

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident that took the lives of Ray Garduño and Juan Francisco González. Our thoughts are with your loved ones and those injured during this unfortunate accident.”

Redrun, the production company responsible for the recordings, said it has been cooperating with local authorities, and that initial reports and witness accounts indicate that all security protocols were in place.

Everardo Gout (Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Leopoldo Gout (Molly’s Game) are the main producers.

American Jesus follows Jodie Christianson, a twelve-year-old boy like any other, who, after being left without a scratch after a serious accident, discovers that he has celestial powers, being able to cure diseases, turn water into wine, among other things.

After his mother reveals that she and his father never had sex, the young man comes to believe that he is the reincarnation of Jesus Christ and it doesn’t take long for the whole town to see him that way. But there had been bigger plans for him for some time now.

The original work has a screenplay by Mark Millar.
