The folks at Microsoft have worked to make using Windows 11 easier, including its features.
If you’ve just installed the latest Windows version, you might not be familiar with all the common tasks, like adjusting the volume.
To help you out, I’ve written this short article to explain in a clear and simple way how to change the volume in Windows 11.
You already know you can change the sound volume through your PC’s speakers or headphones. But if you want to tweak the audio output, you’ll need to do it through the software.
You can use the Quick Settings panel or the Windows Settings for this. In both cases, it’s really easy to do.
How to change volume on Windows 11
As written earlier, you can change the audio output volume in two ways. Both procedures are explained in detail below.
Quick Settings panel
Through the Quick Settings Panel you can adjust the volume very quickly. To do this, click on the Quick Settings button in the application bar, next to the clock. You should usually see the speaker icon.
At this point the Quick Settings Panel will open, locate the audio cursor and act on it by dragging it to the right or left to increase or decrease the system volume. To mute the volume completely, click on the speaker icon present next to the slider. To turn the volume back on, click the speaker icon again.
Also from the Quick Settings Panel, you can choose which device to use for audio playback. To do this, click on the small arrow next to the audio slider and select the device you want to use.
Windows settings
You can carry out the procedure seen above, also from the Windows Settings, to do this:
- Log in to “Settings” to do this, press from the keyboard WIN + I or right-click on the Start button and then click on the “Settings” item;
- From the left side menu, select the item “System”;
- Click on the item “Audio.”
You can also access the audio settings more quickly by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the application bar and then clicking on the item “Sound settings.”
From this screen, you can adjust the volume of the audio by acting on the slider next to the item “Volume”. You can mute the audio entirely by clicking on the speaker icon and you can choose the playback device from the list under the heading “Choose where to play audio”.
