For quite some time now, the Google browser has implemented a function that allows you to view real-time subtitles extracting content from web or personal videos, podcasts, and web-based chat services.
The feature was mainly developed to help users with hearing problems. Still, it can also be helpful on many other occasions, for example, when you don’t have headphones and want to watch a video without disturbing others or maybe when you’re in a very noisy. You can hardly hear the sound of the video.
One very interesting thing is that real-time subtitles also work offline, i.e., with content downloaded and viewed on the browser without an Internet connection.
In the following paragraphs, I will show you the very simple procedure that will allow you to enable live subtitles in google chrome. Later, I will explain how to use the function best. So, if the topic interests you, continue reading the following chapters of this short but interesting article.
Real-time subtitles on Google Chrome: here’s how to enable the feature
Before seeing in detail how to enable and how to use the “real-time subtitles” feature of Google Chrome, it is important to specify that at the moment the function only supports the English language. However, it is very likely that in the future Google will add support for other languages through automatic browser updates.
Having made this premise, we can finally move on to the practical part and see how to enable real-time subtitles on Google Chrome.
To enable the feature, the steps to take are as follows:
- Launch Google Chrome;
- Click on the three vertical dots at the top right;
- From the menu that appears, click on the item “Settings”;
- Click on the entry “Advanced”present in the left menu (if you do not see the item “Advanced” try enlarging your browser window);
- Click on the entry “Accessibility”;
- Turn on the switch next to the entry “Live Subtitles”.
Once the feature is activated, by launching any multimedia content via Google Chrome, a small window will appear showing the subtitles in real time. By clicking and holding the left mouse button on the subtitle window, you can drag and position the window anywhere on the screen.
