How to Get the Best ending in The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has 36 endings, but have you ever wondered which one is the best? If you want to know what it is and how to get to the best ending of The Witcher 3, you’ve come to the right place, because here we have all the answers you need!

Before we start, it’s important to know that the unfolding of The Witcher 3 depends on the player’s choices, which can lead him to one of the 36 possible endings. But it’s worth remembering that most of these endings are just minor variations on each other and in fact, there are only three completely different grand endings.

Warning: This post contains spoilers that can harm the experience of those who haven’t played The Witcher 3 until the end. So read at your own risk.

What is the best ending of The Witcher 3 – Ciri’s Fate

No matter what you do in the game, the epilogue quest is called When Something Ends, Something Begins. The main difference between the epilogue quests is Ciri’s fate, which is determined by the following factors:

    • How did you comfort her during the Blood on the Battlefield mission
    • If you visited the Emperor during the Blood on the Battlefield quest
    • If you accepted the Emperor’s coins for bringing Ciri to him in the Blood on the Battlefield quest
    • If you accompanied Ciri to the meeting during the Final Preparations quest
    • How did you react to Ciri’s temper in The Child of the Elder Blood quest
    • Your completion of the An Eye for an EyeA Deadly PlotRedania’s Most Wanted (Act 2) and Reason of State (Act 3) side quests.

Ciri can have up to three different destinations depending on these seven factors mentioned above.

    Ciri dies

Ciri dies if she doubts herself as she approaches the battle against White Frost. In the epilogue quest, Geralt hunts down the old man who escaped Ciri’s wrath and returns her Warlock locket. This ending ends with Geralt mourning Ciri’s departure.

To reach this ending, you must make at least three out of five “wrong” decisions during a dialogue. Check out the possibilities:

    • Say “Relax, you don’t have to be good at everything” when comforting Ciri during Blood on the Battlefield
    • Choose to visit the Emperor during the Blood on the Battlefield quest, and say “I definitely need more than you” to accept payment for bringing Ciri to him.
    • Accompany Ciri at the Final Preparations mission meeting
    • Say “Calm down” when Ciri gets angry during The Child of the Elder Blood quest
    • Say “No time” when Ciri asks to visit Skjall’s grave at the end of The Child of the Elder Bloo quest

Ciri lives and becomes a witch

Ciri lives and meets White Frost if she feels confident in herself as a worthy being and is unaware of the possibility of future authority. During the epilogue, Geralt visits the Emperor and lies about Ciri’s whereabouts and then meets her in a tavern for her to begin her adventures as a witch.

There are two ways to reach this end, they are:

1 – Don’t take Ciri to the Emperor

    • When Ciri asks to visit Bald Mountain during the Blood on the Battlefield quest , DO NOT select the “We have to visit the Emperor first” option.

2 – Make at least two out of four “correct” decisions

    • Say “I know what can lift your spirits” as you comfort Ciri in Blood on the Battlefield
    • Encourage Ciri to speak alone at the Final Preparations mission meeting
    • Say “You can come” when Ciri loses her cool in The Child of the Elder Blood
    • Say “Yes, I’ll come with you” when Ciri asks to visit Skjall’s grave at the end of The Child of the Elder Blood

    Ciri lives and becomes Emperor

Ciri survives her encounter with White Frost and becomes Empress if she ever met her biological father and became convinced of the good she could do in such a position. This ending ends with Ciri and Geralt saying goodbye in an emotional moment.

To reach this ending you will need to complete three steps. Check out:

1 – Take Ciri to the Emperor

    • When Ciri asks to visit Bald Mountain during the Blood on the Battlefield quest , say “We have to visit the Emperor first”.

2 – Make sure Nilfgaard wins the war

To do so, complete the following Act Two side quests:

    • An Eye for an Eye
    • The Deadly Plot
    • Redania’s Most Wanted

And complete the following from Act Three:

    • During the Blindingly Obvious quest, be nice to Dijikstra and give him information about Ciri. This will unlock the Reason of Stateside quest
    • Complete Reason of State and side with Vernon Roche and Ves against Dijikstra

3 – Make at least three out of five “correct” decisions. The possibilities are:

    • Say “I know what can lift your spirits” as you comfort Ciri in Blood on the Battlefield
    • Encourage Ciri to speak alone at the Final Preparations mission meeting
    • Say “You can come” when Ciri loses her cool in The Child of the Elder Blood
    • Say “Yes, I’ll come with you” when Ciri asks to visit Skjall’s grave at the end of The Child of the Elder Blood

What is the best ending of The Witcher 3 – The fate of Geralt of Rivia

Depending on your actions, there are three possible ending scenarios you can put Geralt in. It’s worth remembering that the ending you get in the game will influence who will appear in the Blood and Wine DLC. So, carefully choose the best The Witcher 3 ending for you.

    • If his final match is Triss Merigold, Geralt moves to Kovir, where Triss becomes the king’s adviser. So Geralt lives in comfort and luxury.
    • Now if their final match is Yennefer, the two retire and live a happy life staying in bed until almost noon.
    • If you haven’t hooked up with either one (or tried to bond with both of them at the same time) Geralt ends up alone as a lonely wizard.

The fate of governors and kingdoms that can influence The Witcher 3’s best ending for you

Geralt’s actions in The Witcher 3 also influence the politics of the game world. These changes can come in small cutscenes at the end of the game, as well as reflect on the game world during epilogue missions. Check out a list of these changes so you can choose the best The Witcher 3 ending for you:

    Who will rule the North

    • Radovid rules over Novigard and Velen: If you ignore Assassin quests completely, Radovid begins to eliminate magic users and non-humans, thus taking the North.
    • Dijikstra Rules Novigard and Velen: If you side with Dijikstra at the end of the Reason of State quest after finishing the Assassin quests, Dijikstra will rule the North in an order based on fear and authority.
    • Nilfgaard reigns but Temeria is restored: If you join Vernon Roche and Ves at the end of Reason of State and after you have completed Assassin quests, Temeria is restored and the war ends in peace and prosperity.

The fate of Emhyr var Emries, Emperor of Nilfgaard

    • If Nilfgaard rules the North, Emhyr focuses on punishing any and all traitors by eliminating them with extreme prejudice.
    • If Radovid or Dijikstra rules the North, Emhyr’s subjects rage and kill him.

    The governor of Skellige

    • If you support Carys under the King’s Gambit arc , Skellige prospers peacefully.
    • If you support Hjalmar under the King’s Gambit arc , the Skelligan army invades Nilfgaard every spring resulting in a bloodbath.
    • In case you ignored King’s Gambit, Svanrige Bran will finance a bloody civil war and establish a totalitarian monarchy in Skellige.
