To take a screenshot (i.e. an image of the screen you see) in Windows 11, you can follow these steps:
Windows 11 screenshot: quick instructions
- Press the WIN + PRTSC keys from the keyboard;
The captured screen will be immediately saved in the “Screenshots” folder inside the “Pictures” folder.
Note: On some keyboards, you will also need to press the FN key.
Screenshots can come in handy on so many occasions: you can use them to capture a game screen, an error message, a certain frame of a video and much more.
Windows 11 allows you to capture the screen image in two main ways: by keyboard shortcut or by using the “Snipping Tool”the latter can be called up via shortcuts, from the Start menu or using the Windows search.
In the following paragraphs I will explain in detail all the procedures that will allow you to make one PC screenshots. I therefore advise you to take a few minutes of free time and carefully read all the chapters of this short but very interesting article.
Screenshot Windows 11: Here are all the ways to do it
As written at the beginning, on Windows 11 you can capture the screen in different ways. The simplest method is by pressing the key PRTSC extension. By pressing the latter, the system will capture the image of the entire screen, including the secondary monitors (if these are present).
The screenshot will be copied to the Windows clipboard and you can paste it by pressing from the keyboard CTRL+Von any program that supports the use of images.
Note: on some keyboards the key PRTSC extension is set as a secondary key and the key must also be pressed to be used FN extension.
This may seem like a pretty convenient procedure, but it’s certainly not the best. Below I will explain other quick and much more efficient methods.
Windows 11 screenshot with keyboard shortcut
A rather simple and fast method that allows you to take a screenshot on Windows 11 is via keyboard shortcut. Pressing the keys WIN+PRTSCthe system will capture the image of all the screens connected to the PC.
However, unlike the procedure seen previously, the image will not be copied to the clipboard, but will be saved in the folder “Screenshots”the latter present in the folder “Images”.
Note: the button WIN is the one present between the keys CRTL extension And ALT. In some cases you will be able to find the writing WINin other cases, however, the Windows logo or the keyboard manufacturer may be present.
Snip tool
The Snipping tool is a built-in tool on Windows 11 that allows you to take screenshots of the entire screen or a specific part. The tool can be used in several ways:
Pressing from keyboard WIN + SHIFT (shift) + S you will notice that the screen will become a little darker and a small bar with four buttons will appear at the top, each of which allows you to make a certain type of screenshot.
- The first button allows you to start the rectangular catchthe latter allows you to capture a part of the screen with a regular cut, for example rectangular or square.
- Clicking on the second button will start the freehand mode.
- The third button allows you to run the window mode. The latter allows you to capture any open window, to do so just click on the window you want to capture.
- The fourth key instead starts the capture of the entire screen and it works very similar to the first procedure I showed you.
After capturing with one of these four modes, the image will be saved in the clipboard and after a few moments a preview of the capture will be shown in a small window at the bottom right of the screen.
By clicking on the preview, the screenshot will be opened within the Snipping Tool. In the latter, you will be able to make different types of modifications and save the capture by clicking on the button “Save”.
Method 2
As an alternative to the procedure seen above, you can directly open the Snipping Tool and take the screenshot from it. To do this, press from the keyboard WIN + Stype “Snap Tool”then click on the first result or press ENTER.
Once the tool has started, you can change the capture mode using the drop-down menu in the center of the toolbar.
Then, to take the screenshot, all you have to do is click on the button “New”.
