Survival mode in GTA Online requires you to always be the best.
Like most titles in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA Online has a number of different modes and minigames. In between all the robberies and killings, you can also spend time enjoying some tennis, golf and arm wrestling.
Not everything revolves around recreational activities, however. The game also offers players multiple ways to kill and be killed, and one of the bloodiest of these is the survival mode in GTA Online, which pits a team of players against an endless wave of NPC enemies. However, this mode takes a while to unlock – and you can learn more about it below.
Unlocking Survival Mode in GTA Online
Like GTA Online’s health stat upgrades, Survival mode is hidden behind a rank level cap. So you need to be at least Rank 15 to access it.
This requirement works as a means of ensuring that players come in with a good understanding of combat mechanics, but it can still be frustrating for newer players. Fortunately, the rating quickly increases early in the game, so many newbies won’t have to wait long.
Finding the First Survival Job
The second precondition is that you must have met Ron and Trevor in the main story of GTA Online. You shouldn’t worry too much about this – you’ll likely find them naturally before reaching Rank 15, but you can also find them at a spot for the “T” symbol on the map.
Once these two conditions are met, you will receive a call from Rob informing you of a new job. This is the Survival mission from the industrial plant tutorial. Then you’ll find him in Harmony at Stoner Cement Works.
Tips for Survival mode
Rank 15 is still very low in GTA Online progression. You probably haven’t even received your first health update at this point, so your first attempt at a Survival job probably won’t last long. However, there are a few things you can do to improve your odds.
Every Survival game starts with health packs and armor available. Armor reappears between waves until wave 10, and health reappears until wave 15. Knowing this, players should try to memorize spawn points and revisit them often.
GTA Online’s strength skill is tied to a character’s defense and melee strength and is faster to level up than health. Because of this, players can spend some time building up their strength to facilitate future survival attempts.
