Microsoft Edge is one of the most popular and modern web browsers. But it still has some features that it lacks compared to its competitors. One is the possibility of exporting browsing history in a format that can be used in other browsers or programs. However, this could change soon as Microsoft is working on an option to export browsing history in a CSV file.
Microsoft Edge will export your data in CSV format
What is a CSV file, and what is it for?
A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is a type of file that stores data in table form, separating the values with commas or other characters. This format is handy for saving and transferring data between different applications since it is compatible with most spreadsheets, databases,s or statistical programs.
In the case of browsing history, a CSV file would allow saving information of visited web pages, such as title, URL, date, and time. Thus, this information could be accessed from other browsers or programs or even analyzed to obtain statistics or usage patterns.
How to export Microsoft Edge browsing history to a CSV file?
The option to export Microsoft Edge browsing history to a CSV file is not yet available to all users. It is in the testing phase in the Canary version of the browser, which is the most experimental and may contain errors or bugs.
You must have installed Microsoft Edge Canary version 117.0.2026.0 or higher to access this option. Then, open the History menu (Ctrl+H) and click on the three dots at the top right. There you will see the option “Export browsing data,” which, when selected, will open a window to choose the location and name of the CSV file.
Once the CSV file is saved, it can be opened with any compatible program, such as Excel, LibreOffice Calc, or Google Sheets. The file will contain the following columns: Title, URL, Date/Time (UTC), Type, and Profile.
What are the benefits of exporting Microsoft Edge browsing history to a CSV file?
Exporting Microsoft Edge browsing history to a CSV file has several user benefits. For example:
- It allows you to easily switch between different versions of Microsoft Edge (Canary, Dev, Beta, or Stable) or between different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, etc.) without losing access to your browsing history.
- Allows you to make backup copies of your browsing history in case it is accidentally deleted or you want to recover it later.
- It allows you to analyze browsing history for personal or professional purposes, such as to see how much time is spent on each web page, what topics are most frequently consulted, or what search patterns are followed.
Microsoft Edge is a web browser constantly updated to bring new features and improvements to its users. The option to export browsing history to a CSV file is yet another sign of their commitment to innovation and customization. This option is expected to arrive soon in the other browser versions and be compatible with other formats besides CSV.
